A new hospital at UC Irvine opens Wednesday and it will be all-electric — only the second such medical center, and the largest, in the country so far.
People live through some of the toughest moments of their lives in hospitals, so they need to be as comfortable as possible. Hospitals traditionally connect with natural gas lines several times bigger than those connected to residential homes, to ensure that rooms are always warm or cool enough and have sufficient hot water.

Sutter plans major new Bay Area hospital. Here’s where
Sutter Health plans to open a major new hospital in Santa Clara by 2031, the provider announced Monday.
The eight-story, 850,000-square-foot facility from one of Northern California’s largest hospital systems will include 272 beds, an emergency department, intensive care unit, labor and delivery department and other services. It will be located at 2831 and 2841 Mission College Blvd. near Levi’s Stadium, and replace an existing office park.

Almost half of U.S. job seekers prioritize better benefits
Family supportive benefits and flexibility are finding their way into job seekers’ expectations when seeking new employment. Two reports released by job search site, Indeed, show how both the “newer” benefits as well as “classic” benefits can work hand-in-hand to help attract and retain the best employees for your needs.
In its report, Classic Employer Benefits still Drive Job Seeker Decision, 49% of U.S. job seekers say “better benefits” motivate their search—second only to higher pay. Health insurance (63%), paid vacation (63%), and paid sick days (59%) top the list of most-valued benefits. Part-time and self-employed workers are significantly more likely to be searching for better benefits.

California hospital files for Chapter 11 protection
Oroville (Calif.) Hospital and its parent organization, OroHealth, each filed petitions for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Dec. 8 to facilitate a transaction aimed at securing the hospital’s long-term future.
The court-supervised process will allow the hospital to continue operations while seeking a partner with the financial and operational resources to invest in the organization and support its mission, according to a Dec. 8 hospital news release.

Kaiser nurses union votes no-confidence in CEO
A majority of Oregon Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals members have delivered a no-confidence vote in the leadership of Kaiser Permanente CEO Greg Adams.
In a Dec. 8 letter shared with the board of directors of Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente, the union called for an independent investigation into Mr. Adams’ fitness to lead the health system. The union also urged the board to establish oversight measures to ensure the organization “swiftly settles fair national and local contracts,” according to a Dec. 8 news release.

Medicare negotiated lower prices for 15 drugs, including 71% off Ozempic and Wegovy
The federal government has announced the results of the latest round of Medicare drug price negotiations: 15 lower drug prices for Medicare to go into effect in 2027.
Medicare will get a 71% discount on Ozempic, Wegovy and Rybelsus, blockbuster drugs for obesity and Type 2 diabetes that have current list prices of around a thousand dollars a month.

Draft 2027 Medicare regs could ease employer drug coverage notice rules
Medicare program managers could make life a little easier in 2027 for employers that offer health savings accounts, health reimbursement arrangements or individual coverage health reimbursement arrangement plans.
Officials want to exempt the sponsors from having to tell health plan participants who are ages 65 or older whether they have solid prescription drug coverage.
