Mixed Reaction to Supreme Court Affordable Care Act Ruling

In a 5-4 vote, with Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. writing the majority opinion, the Supreme Court ruled President Obama’s healthcare law constitutional. He was joined by Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan. California state officials and healthcare leaders met Thursday’s Supreme Court decision with mixed reaction, largely along party lines. Sen. Barbara Boxer, a Democrat, called the ruling on Twitter “great news for America’s families.” And Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein, in a statement, also heralded the news. Conservatives, however, who have rallied against the healthcare law voiced their opposition to the ruling. FreedomWorks, a national conservative group, vowed to fight the law according to a report in the Los Angeles Times.
