There is a strong tie between good health in those who reside in the wealthiest counties as opposed to poorer health for those who live in more impoverished regions, according to a recent study of ore than 3,000 counties and the District of Columbia by researchers from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. “If 5 percent more people attended some college and 4 percent more had an income higher than twice the federal poverty level,” California as a whole “could expect to save 12,000 lives, prevent 122,000 cases of diabetes, and eliminate $874 Million in diabetes costs every year,” according to the Central Valley Business Times report on the study.
